Scholarship to honor retiring PJC alumni director

Published or Revised December 12, 2007

A new Paris Junior College scholarship was announced last week to honor Johnye Robertson, retiring Director of Institutional Development/Alumni Association. She was first employed with PJC as an art instructor in 1976; then began serving as PJC's Director of Institutional Development in 1989. "This scholarship honors all the work Johnye Robertson has done over the years to raise funds to help the students of Paris Junior College," said Dr. Pamela Anglin, PJC President. "If it weren't for the generosity of our donors to PJC's scholarship program, many of our students would lose the opportunity of a college education." Dr. Gary Ballard, past president of the Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends Association, made a presentation of two season tickets for the summer musicals at a reception at the McClanahan House in Robertson's honor. Then he surprised her with a presentation about the scholarship from the alumni group, endowed by an amount ensuring it continues in perpetuity. "I want to express appreciation for the years of friendship and support from the Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends for our scholarship program,” Robertson said. “I want to particularly thank those who gave so generously to create a scholarship in my name. I cannot adequately express how much my life has been enriched by my association with the Paris Junior College community." There are some 200 academic scholarships available at Paris Junior College. Scholarship applications are available in the Admissions Office for Fall 2008 for both fall and spring awards.
