Surgical Technology Program graduates six

Published or Revised May 07, 2009

The Paris Junior College Surgical Technology program held pinning ceremonies Wednesday and presented certificates of completion to graduates. Surgical Technology students complete a curriculum accredited by the Council of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). A Surgical Technologist is trained to provide direct patient care under the direction of licensed physicians in the operating room where they help other surgical team members deliver safe, efficient, cost-effective surgical intervention. The surgical technologist will prepare and maintain a sterile field, anticipate team-member needs, and convey surgical instruments into the hands of a surgeon. Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam, and some may go on to become certified first assistants (CFA), or surgical assistants (SA) licensed by various state medical boards. Norman Gilbert is the program coordinator. Spring PJC Surgical Technology graduates are Lakashia Burton of Paris, Gaylon Currin of Pattonville, Krista Johnson of Sumner, Rosalinda Maldonado of Honey Grove, Angela Nalls of Sulphur Springs and Rickey Wilkerson Jr. of Powderly.
